WJ's testimony

We started this marriage 10 years ago, as two strong and high-achieving individuals. Although we frame the marriage under God, we are holding it up with our own strength, in the sense that even though we are using Christian methods, we did not entirely submit our actions under God, and the ultimate source of strength is of our own opinion, our own decision, and our own design.

God exalt the humble and brings down the proud. When our pursuit for career and financial wealth takes priority over our love for each other, the storms of life washes away the seeds that are planted on rocks and among the thistles. God uses life circumstances to show the reality of our marriage, that our own strength will ultimately fail, and calls us to a renewed and total and radical dependence on Him.

Just as a sinner submitting to baptism to begin a new life in Christ, so I liken today's ceremony as the baptism of our marriage, to receive a new life in Christ. Admitting the many sins that our marriage has committed against God, we ask Jesus for forgiveness, and for a new beginning in Him, that in the years to come, our marriage will submit to His Lordship, in discipline and in worship.

We stand here today totally by the grace of God.

After 10 years of learning from mistakes, I now stand before you, Jing, and renew my promises and wedding vows before God and friends.

In sickness and in health, in good times and bad, whether we have wronged each other or in offering forgiveness, in middle and old age, I promise to do the following:

I promise,
  • first and foremost, to ask for Jesus' blood to cleanse the sins that is binding our marriage,
  • for God's redeeming love to overwhelm whatever we are feeling in our relationship,
  • for the Holy Spirit's power to be my strength in loving and protecting you.

I promise to honor you, not only as my beloved wife, and the one and only God has designed for me, but respect you as one of God's precious children and an amazing sister in Christ.

I promise to pray for you, for your growing faith and for protection from Satan's schemes within a very real spiritual warfare.

I promise to take initiative again, to share with you and communicate with you, my thoughts, my hopes, my dreams, my life.

I promise to fulfill my role of servant leadership, and pray for the growth and protection of our marriage and our family.

I promise to place our marriage as #1 priority, and our family next, above anything that the world has to offer.

May our marriage be a testimony of God's reality in our lives for the days to come.
